Dr. Yeyi Zhu is currently a Research Scientist at Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research and Associate Adjunct Professor at UCSF Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Her research focuses on the interface of disease etiology and prevention strategies to inform upstream prevention and patient management efforts to interrupt the vicious cycle of diabetes and obesity. Dr. Zhu leverages ‘omics, electronic health record data, and bioinformatics analytics to investigate the mechanisms underlying pregnancy and perinatal complications (e.g., gestational diabetes) and childhood obesity.

Title of Talk: Use of Metabolomics for Prediction of Gestational Diabetes—Steps toward Clinical Applications?

Gestational diabetes (GDM) is a common pregnancy complication and predisposes pregnant individuals to perinatal complications and long-term diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. GDM is diagnosed in late pregnancy, but metabolic perturbations may have initiated in early pregnancy. In this lecture, Dr. Zhu will discuss the use of metabolomics for prediction of GDM in early to mid-pregnancy and the potential for and steps toward clinical application.
