Dr. Ward joined Environmental Medicine as a post-doctoral fellow in December of 2022. He earned his BA in Biology and Studio Art from Pitzer College and his MSPH in Parasitology and Public Health from Tulane University’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine following service as a Master’s International Peace Corps Health Volunteer in Ghana. Dr. Ward earned his PhD in Tropical Medicine and Global Health from Tulane where he investigated arboviruses, other vector borne diseases, and their molecular and serological diagnostics. Following his PhD, he was the recipient of a NIH Fogarty Global Health Postdoctoral Fellowship and has additional postdoctoral training from UNC-Chapel Hill and USRA. While in EM, Dr. Ward has been studying the effects of climate and ecosystems on infectious disease transmission and zoonotic spillover events and is recipient of two P30’s, one investigating environmental drivers of Schistosomiasis in Ghana and another investigating the roles of PM2.5 and temperature exposure on congenital Chagas transmission.
Title of Talk: Understanding the role of the environment on neglected tropical and vector borne infectious diseases.
Dr. Ward will discuss his work on the environmental drivers of West Nile virus and the roles PM2.5 and heat exposures during pregnancy plays in congenital chagas transmission.
