The Innovative Application of AI in Occupational and Environmental Medicine

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing Occupational and Environmental Medicine (OEM). This course uses a case study to demonstrate how AI-driven tools can improve treatment decisions, optimize patient outcomes, and reduce the financial and productivity impacts of these conditions.

Speaker Bio:

Ismail Nabeel, MD, MPH, MS

Dr. Nabeel is a distinguished professor in the Department of Environmental Medicine and Climate Science at the Icahn School of Medicine. He specializes in internal medicine, occupational and environmental medicine, clinical and bioinformatics, and is deeply committed to advancing the health and well-being of workers and diverse populations through innovative perspectives and solutions. His research focuses on how climate change impacts human health and disease, particularly within working populations.

A pioneer in integrating information technology into healthcare, Dr. Nabeel leverages artificial intelligence, large language models (LLMs), and unstructured data analysis from electronic health records to revolutionize clinical practices in occupational and environmental medicine. His groundbreaking work enhances diagnostic and treatment protocols, facilitating comprehensive, data-driven strategies to mitigate health risks in diverse work environments.

Dr. Nabeel also plays a key role at the Selikoff Center for Occupational Health and the WTC Health Program, where he strives to improve outcomes for working individuals and first responders affected by the World Trade Center tragedy. Additionally, he produces the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine’s podcast, “OccPod,” which delves into a wide range of topics—from artificial intelligence to climate conversations—within the field of occupational and environmental medicine."
