DESCRIPTION:Jack Peter Green\, MD\, PhD (1925 – 2007) was Professor Emeri
 tus of Pharmacology and Biological Chemistry at the Icahn School of Medici
 ne at Mount Sinai (ISMMS). He received both his MD and PhD degrees from Ya
 le University and began his academic career there as an Assistant Professo
 r of Pharmacology. Following a brief tenure at Cornell University Medical 
 College\, he joined ISMMS in 1968 as Professor of Pharmacology and foundin
 g Chair of the Department of Pharmacology. Within a few years\, he had bui
 lt an internationally renowned department.\n\n \n\nDr. Green’s research 
 focused on the biology of histamine. He was an early proponent of the role
  of histamine and its metabolites as neurotransmitters and neuromodulators
  in the central nervous system. In recognition of this work\, he was one o
 f only seven scientists worldwide to receive the highest honor bestowed by
  the European Histamine Research Society. Dr. Green was among the first sc
 ientists to apply quantum mechanical techniques to studying drug action.\n

 e is the John T. Wilson Distinguished Service Professor in the Department 
 of Chemistry and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at t
 he University of Chicago. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from 
 the University of Science and Technology of China in 1994 and his Ph.D. in
  chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2000. After t
 raining as a Damon Runyon postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University\, he j
 oined the University of Chicago as an assistant professor. He was promoted
  to associate professor in 2008 and full professor in 2010. He was selecte
 d as an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in 2013. \n\n 
 \n\nDr. He’s research spans chemical biology\, RNA biology\, epigenetics
 \, biochemistry\, and genomics. His recent work focuses on reversible RNA 
 and DNA methylation in biological regulation. In 2011\, his group discover
 ed reversible RNA methylation as a new mechanism for regulating gene expre
 ssion. His laboratory subsequently characterized several key reader protei
 ns that preferentially bind to m6A-modified RNA to control its stability a
 nd translation. In 2020\, his laboratory identified widespread m6A methyla
 tion of chromatin-associated regulatory RNAs (carRNAs)\, revealing its rol
 e in regulating chromatin state and global transcription. He received the 
 2017 Paul Marks Prize in Cancer Research\, the 2023 Wolf Prize in Chemistr
 y\, and the 2023 Falling Walls Science Breakthrough of the Year in Life Sc
