Daniel Sciubba, MD, is senior vice president of neurosurgery at Northwell Health and chair of neurosurgery at both North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He also serves co-director of the Institute for Neurology and Neurosurgery at Northwell Health, as Lucille & Milton Cohn Professor & chair of Neurosurgery at Zucker School of Medicine at Northwell/Hofstra, and adjunct professor for John Hopkins School of Medicine.

A national leader in neurosurgery, Dr. Sciubba has made spine surgery a particular area of focus, with special emphasis on spine tumors and spinal deformity, including scoliosis, kyphosis and spondylolisthesis. With an approach that is as minimally invasive as possible but as far-reaching as necessary, he is recognized for his work in complex en bloc surgery, in which a tumor is removed in its entirety in order to reduce the risk of cancer spread, including in cases where the tumor is wrapped around or otherwise involved in another organ or tissue, such as the spinal cord or aorta.

Dr. Sciubba prioritizes the needs, wishes and goals of his patients, emphasizing compassionate communication and making time for a comprehensive exploration of all relevant issues. He stresses cross-disciplinary collaboration in creating treatment plans that are customized to produce an optimal result. Depending on the case, his team may include experts from numerous fields, including surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pharmacology, pain management and more.

A widely recognized researcher, Dr. Sciubba has authored more than 600 peer-reviewed papers and has edited three medical texts. His research includes mining big data to improve clinical outcomes and using animal models to determine the optimal treatment protocol for individuals based on characteristics of tumor and patient. Dr. Sciubba has received many recognitions for clinical excellence. In 2015, he was inducted into the Miller-Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence, the highest clinical distinction at Johns Hopkins University. He has been recognized by Expertscape as among the top ten spine surgeons and spinal oncology clinicians in the world. Dr. Sciubba has also been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor for five consecutive years, among many other honors.

He is committed to teaching the next generation of neurosurgeons and engaging residents and fellows in an atmosphere of shared exploration. As an invited presenter at grand rounds and at national and international meetings, he helps guide the development of the field of neurosurgery.

Dr. Sciubba received his medical degree from the College of Physicians & Surgeons at Columbia University and completed a Master of Business Administration Degree with honors at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. His post-doctoral training included a residency in neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital and two complex spine fellowships at Johns Hopkins University and Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
