Nerve transfers have been established as a successful technique for restoring function for patients with peripheral nerve and brachial plexus injuries. These techniques are rapidly evolving and have recently been applied successfully to achieve functional restoration for patients with spinal cord injury. In this presentation, with Dr. Stephen Miranda, we will review the fundamentals of nerve transfers (including nerve regeneration and cortical plasticity), the circumstances when nerve transfers should be considered for spinal cord injury, and the challenges that still exist in treating this complex population. Followed by followed by a Q&A session.
