MSNseminars - Barbara Juarez, PhD

Barbara Juarez, PhD, Postdoctoral Fellow at Departments of Pharmacology & Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington Medical Center, presents: “Resolving the complexity of dopamine-mediated behaviors and activity states”.
Dopamine neurons are known to express a diverse suite of voltage-gated potassium channel subunits that are important regulators of neuron excitability and firing. Yet, whether these diverse regulators of intrinsic properties contribute to distinct activity states, neurotransmitter release and behavior remains to be fully elucidated. Here, we leveraged viral-mediated, cell-type specific CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing technologies to investigate how potassium channel subunits regulate dopamine physiology and associative learning.
