On January 31, 2019, current Leadership of oSTEM at Mount Sinai and the Stonewall Alliance sponsored the first Mount Sinai Charity Drag Race. Hosted by Lagoona Bloo, an NYC-based drag performer who appeared on “The Voice”, the event featured Mount Sinai drag performers, faculty judges and raffle prizes donated from local businesses! Over $2,700 was raised and donated to the Ali Forney Center, a NYC organization dedicated to protecting homeless LGBTQ youths and empowering them to live independently.
oSTEM at Mount Sinai is a chapter of a national society, dedicated to increasing the participation of people who identify with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, nonbinary, asexual, queer, and ally communities in disciplines related to science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. Leadership of oSTEM include current Graduate Students and PostDocs: Tristan Fehr, Eziwoma Alibo, Christopher Panebianco, M. Q. Perkins, Phillip Cohen, Gavi Hecht and Zebulon Vance.
The Stonewall Alliance, formerly the LGBTQ+ People in Medicine group, is dedicated to improving the visibility and acceptance of the Mount Sinai LGBTQ+ community by working to develop a safe and supportive academic and professional environment through educational and social opportunities. Stonewall Alliance leadership includes current Graduate and Medical Students: Akio Kozato, Tyler Martinson, Don Nguyen and Christopher Panebianco.
