Our guest speaker will be Andrew Berry, PhD, Assistant Professor, Northwestern University. 

Talk Title: "Human-centered design methods: Examples from designing support for people with multiple chronic conditions."

 

Biography:

Dr. Andrew Berry is an Assistant Professor of Medical Social Sciences in the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Human Centered Design & Engineering at the University of Washington (2019), and completed a National Library of Medicine Postdoctoral Fellowship in Biomedical Informatics at the University of Washington (2021). Dr. Berry has over a decade of experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating interventions to facilitate person-centered care, with a focus on user experience with information technology and identifying health outcomes that are meaningful to patients.

 

Background:

This talk will give a brief introduction to human-centered design methods. Then, it will illustrate key human-centered design methods using examples from Dr. Berry’s research program, which aims to promote person-centered health care for people with multiple chronic conditions.

 

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the presentation the audience will understand:

1. Understand the motivation and benefits of incorporating human-centered design methods in clinical science research.

2. Understand how key human-centered design methods can be applied in clinical science research.

3. Understand how digital health tools can make care more person-centered for people with multiple chronic conditions.
