Biography:
Dr. Ben Kummer joined the Department of Neurology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in September 2018 in a hybrid neurologist-clinical Informaticist role. His research interest is in implementation and clinical effectiveness of health information technology in neurology, including teleneurology and artificial intelligence approaches. Dr. Kummer earned an MD from Drexel University College of Medicine in 2011 and subsequently completed a Neurology residency at Columbia University Medical Center, followed by a vascular neurology fellowship at Cornell Medical Center and a clinical informatics fellowship at Columbia University. He is triple board certified in neurology, vascular neurology, and clinical informatics and serves as Vice Chair for the American Academy of Neurology’s Telehealth Subcommittee.
Background:
This talk will describe a study analyzing the characteristics associated with utilization of video teleneurology and non-teleneurology healthcare utilization, as well as loss to follow-up in the Department of Neurology at ISMMS during the first 9 months of the COVID-19 pandemic. These findings will be interpreted in the context of existing and emerging differences in technology access in the United States, and the implications for further studies and policy solutions will be discussed.
