Title of Talk: Housing Policy is Health Policy: Examining Possibly Health Impacts of Proposed Housing Policy on New Yorkers

It is well established that access to safe, affordable, stable housing is a key social driver of health. Interventions that increase access to housing have been shown to be beneficial on a range of health outcomes, and the health impacts of targeted housing-related policy has been evaluated in specific contexts (e.g. eviction moratoria in the setting of the COVID-19 pandemic). This talk will provide a review of the current literature on the impacts of housing on health outcomes, and will then review the proposed housing platforms of the 2025 New York City mayoral candidates, with attention to the possible health effects of the different proposed policies.
