Short Bio:
Gali Halevi is the Chief Director of the Levy Library and the Mount Sinai Health System Libraries. Before joining Mount Sinai, Gali Halevi was responsible for the development of research evaluation and metrics tools for Elsevier's leading products and was the director of research evaluation metrics development programs. During her tenure at Elsevier she was also responsible for the organization and production of a series of seminars and conferences focusing on different aspects of the scientific and research endeavor worldwide. She was a member of the editorial board of Research Trends and a regular writer for the magazine. In addition, Gali is also a researcher and published several articles in peer reviewed journals. Her areas of expertise are research evaluation and impact, bibliometrics, global scientific trends and international research collaborations. Previous to her work at Elsevier, Gali was an information specialist providing competitive intelligence services for pharmaceutical and financial companies. Gali received her Master's degree in Library & Information Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and her PhD in Information Science from Long Island University in New York.
Abstract:
In the last few years, new types of metrics that go beyond these two factors have emerged. These metrics, also known as "Altmetrics", allow for a wider view of research impact. This talk will provide an overview of publications-citations metrics, their advantage and disadvantages as well as discuss the emerging new metrics driven by online presence. In addition, Mount Sinai efforts in this area will be demonstrated.
