Mount Sinai’s 9th Annual Endoscopic Ear Surgery
and Temporal Bone Dissection Course
Friday and Saturday, September 19-20, 2025

 

Course Directors:

Enrique Perez, MD, MBA

Zachary Schwam, MD

This two-day course is comprised of lectures, panel discussions, and hands-on laboratory dissections of the temporal bone. The curriculum covers current endoscopic surgical techniques, instrumentation, and equipment, as well as temporal bone anatomy and cochlear/bone conduction implants. The course is designed to be valuable for both surgeons in training and those wanting to augment their experience with middle ear and implant surgery.

 

FRIDAY, September 19, 2025

8:00-8:30 am:               Breakfast with sponsors and introduction
8:30-12:00 pm:             Lectures

  • Setting up an endoscopic program, key equipment, general principles (30 mins)
  • Tympanoplasty and ossiculoplasty (30 mins)
  • Routine and complicated stapedectomy (20 mins)
  • Cholesteatoma (30 mins)
  • Middle ear tumors (20 mins)
  • Panel: How to build a practice (50 mins)
  • Marketing, audiology, neurosurgery
     

 

Lunch Break

12:00-12:45 pm:          Lunch with short talks by sponsors

 

Lab Dissection

1:00 -5:00 pm:              Dissection Lab

  • Endoscopic middle ear exploration, ossiculoplasty, stapedectomy
  • Temporal bone resection
  • Total facial nerve decompression
  • Cochlear and bone conduction implants

  • The unilateral effusion (20 mins)
  • Panel: Mistakes/challenging cases/unexpected outcomes (60 mins)
