At the next Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine grand rounds, on Friday 17-October-2025, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Ming-Lun Lu, PhD, will present a lecture titled “Developing a Holistic Approach to Preventing Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders”.
Ming-Lun Lu, aka Jack Lu, is a certified professional ergonomist and a researcher at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). He holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Hygiene with a concentration on ergonomics from the University of Cincinnati. He serves as the co-manager for the NIOSH Musculoskeletal Health Cross-sector Program and the co-chair for the National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) Musculoskeletal Health Council. His primary research interests include occupational biomechanics, the revised NIOSH lifting equation, field based ergonomic risk assessment methods, ergonomic interventions for airport baggage handling, healthcare ergonomics and psychosocial well-being research for the prevention of work-related musculoskeletal disorders. Dr. Lu has served on many standard development committees including the Automotive Industrial Action Group Ergonomic Guidelines for Small Lot Delivery Systems (2005-2007), the Transportation Security Administration’s Planning Guidelines and Design Standards for Checked Baggage Inspection Systems (2009-2010) , the US military ergonomic standard MIL-STD 1472G (2016-2019), the American National Standard Institute (ANSI)/Human Factor and Ergonomics Society (HFES) Technical Advisory Group to the ISO Technical Group 159 Sub-committee 3 for ergonomic standards.
