Short Bio:
Dr. Lizbeth Lopez-Carrillo is a food chemist-epidemiologist, holding a doctoral degree from Yale University. She has worked for the Mexico Ministry of Health as the Head of the Department of Chronic Disease Research, Director of the Division of Research on Development and Health, and is currently a Senior Researcher at the National Institute of Public Health of Mexico (NIPH). She has designed and conducted several population-based epidemiologic studies, mainly focused on the evaluation of dietary habits, exposure to environmental pollutants, and their role in childrens' health and cancer
Abstract:
The prohibition of DDT use in most of the countries of the world has undoubtedly helped to reduce its exposure and consequently the damage to children's health. However, due to DDT high persistence, we will have it for decades in the environment. To prevent that more children in the world experiencing a deterioration in their neurodevelopment, we are trying to determine if dietary nutrients could interact antagonistically with DDT.
