Chau Trinh-Shevrin, DrPH is Professor in the Departments of Population Health and Medicine, as well as Director of the Division of Health and Behavior and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Population Health at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. For over 25 years, her research focuses on the rigorous development and evaluation of multi-level prevention and intervention strategies to reduce health disparities and advance health equity.  Trained as a social epidemiologist, Dr. Trinh-Shevrin has deep expertise in community-based participatory research and implementation research.  Dr. Trinh-Shevrin is mPI of an NIMHD U54 Specialized Center of Excellence on Minority Health and Health Disparities– the Center for the Study of Asian American Health (CSAAH), NIH Community Engagement Alliance to End COVID-19 Disparities in New York, a NIA R24 Engagement in Longevity and Medicine Research Collaborative, NIEHS Collaborative Environmental Health and Research Translation Center, and a CDC Cancer Outreach Network in Neighborhoods for Equity and Community Translation. Dr. Trinh-Shevrin is associate director of Community Outreach and Engagement for the Perlmutter Cancer Center, an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, and PI of a CDC Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network Center.  Dr. Trinh-Shevrin earned her doctorate in public health from Columbia University and masters in health policy and management at the State University of New York at Albany. She has co-authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and is co-editor of three textbooks, Applied Population Health Approaches for Asian American Communities (Wiley Sciences, 2022), Asian American Communities and Health (Jossey-Bass, 2009), and Empowerment and Recovery: Confronting Addiction during Pregnancy with Peer Counseling (Praeger Press, 1998).

 

Title of Talk: Asian American Communities and Health Equity

 

There are more than 1.4 million Asian Americans living in New York City.  The presentation will briefly describe the social and health context and drivers of health disparities experienced among Asian American populations. Recommended strategies to advance health equity and well-being will be discussed.
