DESCRIPTION:Dr. Kristina Whitworth is Associate Professor in the Section of
Epidemiology and Population Sciences in the Department of Medicine and the
Center for Precision Environmental Health at Baylor College of Medicine in
Houston Texas. She is an environmental epidemiologist whose research focu
ses on maternal and child health outcomes and completed post-doctoral train
ing at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) in D
urham\, North Carolina. She was a recipient of an Outstanding New Environme
ntal Scientist (ONES) Award from NIEHS in 2019 to evaluate susceptible wind
ows of exposure to fine particulate matter on fetal growth and child neurod
evelopmental outcomes. As multiple PI\, she has also received NIH funding
to evaluate the role of structural racism\, including environmental injusti
ce\, on racial and ethnic disparities in perinatal health outcomes in Houst
on\, TX. Recently\, she and her colleagues were awarded a grant to support
a Houston-based pregnancy cohort study site as part of the ECHO Program\,
a national birth cohort aimed to evaluate early-life environmental factors
on child and adolescent health and development.\n\n \n\nTitle of Talk: Appl
ication of distributed lag non linear models (DLNM) to evaluate susceptible
periods of environmental exposure for perinatal and child health.\n\n \n\n
Dr. Whitworth will discuss the results of epidemiologic studies conducted i
n her group to investigate susceptible periods of exposure to air pollution
and heat on perinatal and children's health outcomes\, including fetal gro
 wth\, birthweight\, and early neurodevelopment.\n\n \n\nTime: May 22nd\, 20
